Why Jay Leno is Being Treated with Hyperbaric Oxygen for his Burns

As widely reported in the media, Jay Leno suffered second and third-degree burns while working on his 1907 White Steam Car. While under the car, a gasoline fire burst the car into flames causing third degree burns to Leno.

One of the treatments he is receiving to care for his burns is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. “The treatment helps with swelling and increases blood flow with good oxygenation to the burns on Jay’s arms, shoulders, neck and face. Dr. Peter Grossman of the Grossman Burn Center told Inside Edition the process will also decrease bacteria around the injuries.”

A team of researchers ran a small study analyzing how inhaling highly pressurized, pure oxygen affects the heart function of long COVID patients.

They found that hyperbaric oxygen therapy may help the heart improve cardiovascular contractions in this population.
